What is the Window Period for HIV?

What is the Window Period for HIV? Question:
I had unprotected act with a Boy in September and October. Though I or that boy does not have any symptoms of disease; but I am worried because I had unprotected act. I did got myself tested in February and test was negative. Did I hit the window period? Do I need to get myself tested again? What is the window period for HIV?

Answer:
The window period for HIV is the time required by body to produce antibodies to fight HIV virus. Usually it takes less than 3 months but in some cases it can take upto 6 months.

As your test was negative after 3 months, so most probably you are safe. But, you must get yourself tested after 6 months from the date of unprotected act – just to be sure.

I hope this helps.

    hi,
I had a unprotected act with call girl 6 months back. I am now so much terrified and feeling like infected. I have not gone through test yet. But for last 6 months i did not find any symptoms. When i talk to that girl, she told that she is oK.

You can not trust that girl… Its better to get yourself checked by doing a simple blood test. Many clinics do it. This is the only way to get your peace of mind back.

If you feel shy in asking doctor/paramedical staff about HIV test or if need an excuse, then say that you are going to be married soon so you need to get HIV test done…

The window period is three months. HIV may not have symptoms until ten years but it will show in a blood test for sure three months after exposure! Wait six months if you are sick with cancer.
