The HIV virus has struck mankind decades ago and active research is being done for identifying the HIV agent and development of an effective drug for HIV treatment. Some major areas of development are the finding the accurate and effective blood tests to detect the virus, knowledge of molecular virology and pathogenesis of the virus.

Intensive research is being carried out to identify, isolate and investigate scientifically the HIV virus and find a suitable drug that can eradicate this disease. Research is being carried out all over the world and each country is providing their value additions. Scientists are investigating on the subject of molecular cloning and a technique to evaluate anti-HIV compounds.

Studies are conducted to isolate the HIV cells from peripheral blood (T cells) and culture these cells for further research. DNA cloning can also help researches find an effective and long lasting solution to AIDS. But scientists are currently advising that prevention is better than cure. A behavior change is the first important step to prevent HIV till a cure or a better medication regime is found. This epidemic has to be curtailed to educate the masses about this deadly virus. Segments of high-risk individuals in high-risk countries like Africa have to be considered for active AIDS Prevention Information Programs to make them understand the urgency of the problem. At present, drug manufacturers are focusing on trying to control the disease and preventing new infections. But there is a need to develop a medicine/vaccine than can provide a reliable HIV Cure and AIDS Cure.

HIV Medicine at present!
The medicines involved in the treatment of this deadly virus are expensive. Because of its cost, people are shunning medical help. But don’t lose hope. Drug manufactures have announced massive cuts, and are helping the government in long time planning to eradicate the disease. Effective programs and grants are carried by various governments for the research and development of medicine to control and cure AIDS. For e.g. the drug manufacturer Merck had announced that they would cut the price of a drug called ‘Crivixian ‘ to about 10 percent of what it costs in the United States. Also Abbot the company that manufactures the HIV drug “Kaletra” would reduce its price to 30 percent to help people in need to get the required medical facilities on time. If the worlds major players in medicine could get together and reduce the price of drugs that deal in the control of this life shattering disease then many people, especially in the poorer nations would stand to benefit form this move. But we should take care that cost cutting of drugs should not effect the quality of these drugs because HIV is a life threatening disease.

There’s some good news too. The United States has approved the first generic formulation of and HIV medication and medical professionals are happy as this is going to make the medication cheaper and available to the masses that are poor. This surely is an important step in finding a HIV Treatment
