Fighting HIV AIDS
AIDS has never been an easy disease to talk about. Initially when the disease first came into recognition, it made the sufferer a social pariah. Ignorant people considered the patients as contagious and it wasn’t unusual for the patient to be boycotted completely. Times have changed with more awareness nowadays as the disease has spread wide and far affecting nearly every strata of society. Just as with cancer AIDS is now an equal opportunity killer affecting men, women and children from all over the globe irrespective of how much money or social affluence they might have.
Conditions have changed but there are still people who are ignorant of the causes of the disease and how it spreads. It’s not unusual to find affected patients still boycotted for the simple reason of being HIV positive. In an effort to hide their conditions, HIV positive patients try to hide their condition from near and dear one but are not always successful.Sharing their problems with a support group is another option but the internet is one of the best ways to ensure that they can be anonymous yet totally free with their problems and the heinous disease they suffer from. Patients from all over the globe now try to share their mental, physical and emotional anguish of day to day living by sharing personal blogs with other affected patients.
Googling the words HIV blogs will get you thousands of blogs running live on the internet where anonymous or totally upfront patients share their daily routines and fears. It can be extremely upsetting to read and even more upsetting when you realize ignorance about the disease is rampant! Patients strive to get through daily life while worrying every second about someone finding out about their secret. They fear death, ignorance, diseases, and the ever present fear of infecting someone totally innocent in their struggle to survive. It’s a scary read and an even pitiable condition when you realize that this could be done away with if only social acceptance of the disease was slightly more. Another totally scary thing I’ve noticed is that for every brave handful like James McLarty-Lopes who share everything on their public blogs; there are thousand of “anonymous” commenters who share their views! That itself is enough to let you know the condition of HIV positive patients and their social acceptance in the world today! The world may be different but people and their attitudes have to change!
The BEST solution to the problem is awareness and education which leads to prevention of HIV virus spreading.
